How to compress a PDF on iPhone

Three taps from a heavy PDF to a file that’s ready to send.

  1. 1

    Pick your PDF

Select a file from Files, iCloud Drive, email attachments or any app that can share a PDF.

  2. 2

    Choose a compression level

From “No Quality Loss” to “Screen Optimized” — see the estimated reduction before you start.

  3. 3

    Share the smaller PDF

Your compressed file is saved in the app. Send it by email, Messages, AirDrop or upload it anywhere.

Reduce PDF size your way

Pick the balance between quality and file size. Tap a level to preview the result on a 20 MB PDF.

When you need a smaller PDF

Whenever “file too large” gets in your way.

Send by email

Get past attachment limits — most email providers cap messages around 20–25 MB — without splitting your document.

Upload to portals & forms

Job applications, visa forms, school and government portals often cap uploads at a few megabytes. Shrink your PDF to fit.

Save storage

Scanned contracts, invoices and ebooks add up. Compress them and reclaim space on your iPhone or iCloud.

Share faster

Smaller files send, sync and open faster on slow connections — perfect for WhatsApp, Slack and Messages.

Your documents stay yours

Files travel over an encrypted HTTPS connection, are held only for the moments needed to compress them, and are then automatically deleted. We don’t keep, analyze or access the contents of your PDFs — and there are no ads. Read the full Privacy Policy.

Compress PDF — common questions

How do I compress a PDF on my iPhone?

Open PDF Compressor, pick a PDF from Files or any other location, choose a compression level and tap Compress. The smaller PDF is ready in seconds and saved inside the app, where you can share it by email, Messages, AirDrop or any other app.

How much can PDF Compressor reduce my PDF size?

It depends on the document. Depending on the level you choose, the app typically reduces file size by roughly 10% to 60%. Scans and image-heavy PDFs shrink the most; text-only PDFs are already small.

Will compressing a PDF reduce its quality?

You decide. The No Quality Loss level keeps the original quality, while stronger levels such as Web Optimized and Screen Optimized trade some image sharpness for a much smaller file. Print Quality keeps output suitable for printing.

Is PDF Compressor free?

The app is free to download and lets you try it with a few free compressions on smaller files. Unlocking unlimited compressions and larger files is available through an optional subscription managed through your Apple ID.

Are my PDF files safe?

Files are sent over an encrypted HTTPS connection, held only for the moments needed to compress them, and then automatically deleted. We do not keep, analyze or access the contents of your documents, and the app shows no ads.

Does it work on iPad?

Yes. PDF Compressor runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS or iPadOS 18.0 or later.

Can I compress a password-protected PDF?

Yes. If a PDF is protected with a password, the app asks you for it before compressing.
