Edit PDF — common questions

How do I edit a PDF on my iPhone?

Open PDF Editor, choose a PDF, then pick a tool: tap existing text to change it, tap the page to add text, or use the other tools to fill, sign, highlight and more. When you’re done, tap Apply changes to create a new PDF you can share or save to Files.

Does editing change my original PDF?

No. The app works on a private copy and creates a new PDF when you apply your changes. The original file is never modified.

Can I sign a PDF on my iPhone or iPad?

Yes. Draw your signature with a finger or Apple Pencil, save it, and place it anywhere on the page. You can resize and move it before applying.

How do I fill in a PDF form?

Use Smart Fill. The app finds blanks and checkboxes on printed forms and scanned pages, and you tap one to fill it in. To recognise text on a page it uses Apple’s on-device text recognition.

Can I edit text in a scanned PDF?

A scan is a picture of a page, so there is no text underneath to change. For scans, use Smart Fill, Whiteout and the Text tool to write on top of the page.

How much does PDF Editor cost?

You can install the app from the App Store and try it with one trial export, which carries a small watermark, on documents up to 15 pages, with up to 3 Smart Fill fields per document and one saved signature. Optional Premium plans, managed through your Apple ID, remove those limits.

Are my PDF files uploaded anywhere?

No. Your PDFs are opened, edited and exported on your device. The app doesn’t need an account and doesn’t upload your documents.

Can I open a password-protected PDF?

Yes. If a PDF is protected with a password, the app asks you for it before opening the document.

Does it work on iPad?

Yes. PDF Editor runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS or iPadOS 17.0 or later.
